How to get there
From Hamburg and Luebeck drive North on the A1. Exit where signs say `Timmendorfer Strand`, just behind Luebeck. Follow signs and that road to Timmendorfer Strand. Just before you enter Timmendorf turn right before a bridge passes over the street and follow that street (B76) towards Niendorf. At a traffic light turn left into Niendorf. After 50m when you face the harbour, turn right and the next street/traffic light turn left at a kiosk. Look out for a parking. Either drive all the way down to the water or keep left to go directly to te better launch. There is a very small parking lot. Park here or before and walk to the beach next to the public toilets/showers. Pay for parking, otherwise you will get a ticket. Hint: if you stay some hours, it is cheaper to get a parking ticket than paying the parking fee!

Beach and Tide Conditions

Niendorf Hafenmole, Germany is a
Flat, Chop, Small waves and Medium waves spot.
The
launching/landing area
is reported to be of
Medium size.
Sandy beach, with a few pebbles and shells. The beach is about 20-30m wide, further west towards the mole about 100m. Lots of space except in summer. The only free beach in that area, so very packed in summer, kiting not possible. Be careful, there are some iron volleyball and basketball poles on the beach.
This beach can have it all. Extreme flat water behind the mole (stones) in front of the small harbor. At the end of the mole on the sandbar nice waves, specially in strong E/NE winds. Then you can get speed and use the waves as ramps. Choppy in West winds. Be careful with the mole and its stones. To the East another concrete mole and in-between small wooden wave breakers. If your ride close to the mole, stay away from the boats coming in and out of the harbor.

Too crowded in summer (specially weekends) when it is very warm. Not a beginners beach. When it is crowded, the only spot to launch is behind the mole at the harbors side. The dead flat water is at the harbor side within shipping buoys. So far no problem, but be extremely careful with the boats passing by, they always have the right of way to avoid problems! Swimmer's zone during summer.
